Nevada County car chase leads to 2 arrests; vehicle gets away
November 28, 2016
Nevada County authorities have entered two suspects connected to a high-speed chase into a missing persons database after they escaped pursuing officers, officials and records state.
The pair, whose names aren't listed by authorities, are linked in police and sheriff's reports to a Friday chase that began in Nevada City and ended near the White Cloud Campground.
Two men in the car before it escaped — Jose Edoardo Henriquez, 28, and Jayson Edward Rose, 25, both of Grass Valley — were arrested Friday on drug charges, according to Sheriff Keith Royal and jail reports.
Both men remained in custody Monday afternoon under bond, jail records state.
Friends and family of the two missing people have called authorities, urging them to start a search.
"They're legitimately lost," said Erika Hoefler, a friend of one of them.
Royal said one of the suspects has an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
"We got a number of phone calls from people who consider them lost," he added. "They don't want to be found."
According to Royal and reports, authorities around 3 p.m. Friday tried to stop a vehicle that failed to yield near Ridge and Gold Flat roads. The car later stopped at Zion Street and Ridge Road, where two men left the vehicle. The car then fled.
Nevada City police reports state officers arrested Henriquez and Rose in the area.
Authorities followed the vehicle up Highway 20, stopping when winter weather conditions hit and the car began to cross into oncoming traffic, Royal said.
Hoefler said one of the missing people had contact with a friend since his disappearance.
"He had no idea where he was," she added. "Someone can only survive in that weather for so long."
Royal said that authorities did search for the vehicle after calling off the pursuit, though it wasn't found.
Reports state one of the missing people is a white man, 6-feet tall and 180 pounds. He wore a white T-shirt and blue jeans.
The other missing person is a white women, 5-foot-4 or 5-foot-5 and 180 pounds, reports show.
