Nevada City fight ends in stabbing
June 6, 2013
A fight in downtown Nevada City early Wednesday morning sent one of the men involved to the hospital with multiple stab wounds.
Nevada City police officers were dispatched to Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital a little after 3 a.m. after the victim sought treatment for his injuries, said Officer Tucker Huey.
The man had been stabbed three times, in the lower abdomen and the leg, Huey said.
The victim told investigators from Nevada City, Grass Valley police and the district attorney’s office that he got into an argument with another man over a woman in front of the Bonanza Market on Broad Street.
“It was a very brief altercation that rapidly escalated,” Huey said.
The suspect, identified as Philip Colbert, 31, reportedly sustained only superficial injuries in the fight.
The victim, who was not identified, currently is in stable condition, Huey said.
Colbert was tracked down at a residence off North Bloomfield Road and arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and assault causing great bodily injury, Huey said. His bail amount was not available as of press time.
Anyone who might have witnessed the altercation is asked to contact the Nevada City Police Department at 530-265-4700.
