A vegetation fire at a transient camp and several small lightning strike fires were quickly handled by area firefighters.

Nevada County Consolidated firefighters quickly responded to one blaze Friday night, according to a press release.

Multiple 911 reports of a vegetation fire in the Deadman's Flat area that was visible from Highway 20 were received at about 9:12 p.m. Consolidated Battalion 2 arrived and found an approximately 1-acre fire in heavy fuels. Access to the fire was difficult due to impassable roads and downed trees, the press release stated. Crews hiked in and began constructing a handline around the fire.

Cal Fire resources utilized two engine companies, a hand crew and a bulldozer to gain access to the fire, and Rough and Ready firefighters also assisted.

The fire was contained at 10:45 p.m.; it originated in a transient camp and remains under investigation.

The U.S. Forest Service reported three confirmed lightning strike fires in the Tahoe National Forest.

Two started Saturday afternoon, both on the north side of Bullards Bar, and both were reported to be contained as of Sunday morning, said spokeswoman Ann Westling.

The Pendola Fire was an acre and a half, near the reservoir; firefighters from North San Juan and Camptonville assisted. The other fire, the Bar Fire, was reported at 8 to 10 acres. North San Juan assisted with that fire as well.

A small spot fire also was reported east of Stampede reservoir, Westling said.

Several smoke reports were being investigated, but no other fires had been located. Additional lightning was expected later Sunday into Monday.
