Man sought in baseball bat attack
August 27, 2013
Nevada County Sheriff’s deputies are on the lookout for a man suspected of vandalizing another man’s truck with a baseball bat.
The victim, who was not identified, is a caretaker on a property in the 12000 block of Boundary Way and was sleeping in his truck, said Undersheriff Joe Salivar.
He got up at about 6 a.m. Tuesday and reportedly saw a man coming out of a residence on the property who then ran at him with a baseball bat.
“It seems to be a case of mistaken identity,” Salivar said. “The suspect was accusing him of vandalizing his truck.”
Although the victim protested his innocence, the suspect allegedly began to hit his truck with the baseball bat, breaking the driver’s side mirror and window. According to Salivar, he caused about $1,000 in damage. The victim drove away, but the suspect followed him to his place of work, Salivar said.
The suspect then reportedly drove at the victim, swerving at the last minute, before driving away.
Deputies went to the suspect’s residence, but he was gone when they arrived; a be-on-the-lookout advisory has been issued.
