Lady Bruins draw first-round bye in NorCal hoops bracket
March 7, 2013
Looking to rebound from Saturday's 50-40 loss to Bradshaw Christian in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV championship game, the Bear River Lady Bruins had the ball bounce their way Sunday as brackets for the CIF State Tournament were released.
Bear River (26-4) drew a bye in the first round of the CIF D-IV NorCal bracket. As the No. 4 seed, Bear River will host a second-round showdown at Jack McCrory Gymnasium Saturday. The Lady Bruins will square off against the winner of Wednesday's matchup between No. 5 Menlo (20-9) and No. 12 Moreau Catholic (21-7).
Bear River's Pioneer Valley League rival, Colfax (20-9), which earned the No. 10 seed, will travel to No. 7 Marin Catholic (21-9) for Wednesday's first-round action.
If the Lady Bruins are able to emerge with a win Saturday night, they'll advance to the March 12 semifinal game. Three teams are potential foes for Bear River in that matchup, as No. 8 Anderson (19-10) tips off against No. 9 Sacred Heart Prep (21-9) Wednesday for a chance to play top-seeded Salesian (26-6) of Richmond Saturday night.
The Northern California championship game is scheduled for March 16 at American Canyon High School in American Canyon with the CIF State Finals to follow March 23 at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento.
