IHSS Public Authority adds classes for 2014
March 7, 2014
The Nevada-Sierra Regional IHSS Public Authority recently released its 2014 schedule of classes. The public Authority assists aconsumers of the In-Home Supportive Services program to find qualified in-home assistance.
Providers of IHSS services work in consumers’ homes, completing tasks like cooking, cleaning, running errands and personal care.
Part of the public authority’s mandate is to provide training for both IHSS consumers and providers.
For 2014, the public authority has expanded its offering of classes throughout the year, supplementing regular, ongoing classes such as CPR/First Aid and Lifting and Transferring with classes focused on consumer and provider health.
Health and wellness classes include: Be an Active Partner in Your Health Care (July 16), where participants will learn how to make the most of doctors’ appointments, manage medication and set health goals; and an ongoing, six-week stress workshop called Taking Care of Yourself (Wednesdays, beginning April 9).
The public authority has also partnered with Nevada County’s Nutrition Education and Obesity Prevention program to provide a three-week series of fun, interactive cooking classes at the Cedar Park Apartments in Grass Valley, taught by Wendy Van Wagner, formerly of In the Kitchen.
For those who work or live with someone who is experiencing dementia or memory loss, the public authority is now offering a three-week class called the Confident Dementia Caregiver (Mondays, beginning Sept. 8). Participants will learn about the causes of dementia, appropriate interventions and how best to communicate with those struggling with memory loss.
All in-person classes are open to the public for a $5 fee. See a PDF of the full schedule of classes at the public authority’s website: http://ns-pa.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/2014-Catalog-WEB.pdf.
Contact the public authority office at 530-274-5601 for more information or to register for classes.
