People who wish to lose some weight or just to develop better diet habits for 2016 will soon have the chance to take the first step toward accomplishing their New Year's resolutions.

The South Yuba Club, in conjunction with The Union and Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital, has put together the Lifestyle Reboot 2016, a free event to help community members put together a well-shaped "road-map" to gain a healthier lifestyle.

"It's an opportunity for people to learn their personalized plan for 2016," said Mike Carville, a NASM/RKC certified fitness coach and the co-owner of South Yuba Club.

The one-day event will start at 10 a.m. Saturday at South Yuba Club's Nevada City branch, located at 555 Searls Ave.

For four hours, attendees are invited to participate in free health and wellness presentations, demos, exercise classes, workshops, as well as free screenings offered by Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital.

"Members from SNMH Cardiac Rehabilitation department will be providing Body Mass Index (BMI) testing, blood pressure and heart rate testing at the event," said Brandy Kolmer, a communications specialist at the hospital. "It's important to know your basic vital signs — when you know where you're starting from, you can make the best plan to reach your goals," Carville said he would host two workshops, one at 11 a.m. and another at 2 p.m. to teach people how to create and follow a good diet and exercise plan.

"I'll take them through the process," Carville said, "from goal settings to teaching them to develop a plan, to following it in a weekly basis."

The focus of the event is on nutrition and weight loss, Carville added.

People who come to the event will get a free South Yuba Club Membership for one week. They will also have the chance to enter their names in a raffle to win a free one-year gym membership.

Organizers said Lifestyle Reboot is here to stay.

"We are trying to make it an annual event to help the community and answer questions," Carville said.
