Weather forecast: Cooler temps, windy weather on the horizon
Cooler temperatures and windy conditions are expected for the upcoming week, according to the National Weather Service.
Mostly sunny skies and a high of 68 degrees and low in the mid-40s are expected for Tuesday with a slight chance of rain at night, said Karl Swanberg, forecaster for the Sacramento office of the National Weather Service.
Wednesday will be partly cloudy with a slight chance of rain with highs in the low 60s and light winds up to 10 mph in the afternoon, Swanberg said, with sunny and breezy conditions Thursday with temperatures around 65 to 70 degrees.
"We're looking at some breezy northerly winds Thursday, and the upcoming weekend looks dry and generally clear with low temperatures in the mid-40s to mid-50s and high temperatures ranging from the mid-60s to mid-70s," Swanberg said.
The shower chances are associated with a weeklong trough of low pressure that will move across the area Tuesday to Wednesday, Swanberg said, which is accounting for the cooler temperatures and chance of rain showers.
A high-pressure system is building up toward Thursday with potential for gusty northerly wind system up to 15 to 25 mph and locally higher gusts for Thursday, Swanberg said, adding, "We're shifting gears into more fall-like weather."
