Climate change lecture on tap

The Sierra Nevada Group of the Sierra Club is presenting a lecture by Robert Shibatani, CEO of the Shibatani Group, on “The Threat of Climate Change on Sierra Nevada Snowpack and Water Supply” on May 21 at Seaman’s Lodge at Pioneer Park.

Shibatani, a hydrologist, will discuss evidence of climate change and its effects on the Sierra Nevada snowpack and water supply.

“Water resources are not something that we came across later in our careers; it is what we have been exclusively focused on for almost 30 years,” he said. “Since the early 1980s, my colleagues and I have been attentively focused on the academic, research and varied consulting aspects of physical hydrology and water resources.”

Shibatani will address recent climate trends, climate modeling and its limitations, the effects on snowpack and water supply, and the importance of Sierra Nevada infrastructure in overall California water resources.

The May 21 meeting is the monthly gathering of the Sierra Nevada Group in Nevada City.

The public is welcome and admission is free. Arrive early for a potluck dinner at 6:30 p.m. Bring a dish to share, utensils and a beverage. Hot water for coffee or tea is provided. Announcements

begin at 7:15 p.m. followed by the presentation.
