CHP hosts recruitment event

On Saturday, the California Highway Patrol’s Valley Division will host a recruitment event at the California Highway Patrol Academy.
The CHP is currently recruiting both women and men as officers throughout the state. This recruitment event is designed to educate women and men who may have questions regarding a career with the CHP.
At this recruitment event, applicants will learn about CHP career opportunities, salary, benefits and retirement; visit with successful officers, sergeants, lieutenants, captains and chiefs; preview life at the Academy and how to prepare for a career with the CHP; learn about the new hiring process; be provided information on nutrition and preparedness for the physical abilities test; tour the CHP Academy; and speak with female and male motorcycle officers, K-9 officers, recruitment officers, mounted patrol officers, commercial officers, physical training officers from the CHP Academy, Emergency Vehicle Operation Course training officers, weapons training officers, CHP Explorers, and current CHP cadets.
The event takes place from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Saturday at the CHP Academy, 3500 Reed Ave., West Sacramento.
The open house is being held in advance of an upcoming three-day application period.
Applications will only be accepted online during a three-day period beginning at 7 a.m. Sept. 12, and ending at 11:59 p.m. on Sept. 14. This brief application period marks the second time in three years the CHP has accepted applications. Minimum qualifications for candidates include: must be 20-35 years old, a U.S. citizen, have no felony convictions, and be a high school graduate. Each applicant will be required to complete the entire testing process including a written test, physical ability test, appraisal panel interview, background investigation, medical/vision evaluation, and psychological evaluation.
Applicants who tested after Jan. 1, 2013, and passed the written exam will be eligible to waive the written examination for this testing cycle. Applicants who are eligible to waive must still apply during the three-day application period.
