Can public help find missing man?
August 26, 2013
The girlfriend of a North San Juan man who has been missing since Monday is hoping the public can help locate him.
Scott Ritter, 47, reportedly hitchhiked from his home to his sister’s residence on Cerritos Road after being dropped off at Kmart, said girlfriend Mary Mount.
“He was there over the weekend,” Mount said. “I talked to him Monday morning and he … was going to hitchhike home.”
A California Highway Patrol officer reportedly was the last to come into contact with Ritter at about 5 p.m. Monday on Highway 49 near Auburn Road. According to Mount, a caller had reported a man lying on the side of the road with a weedeater.
Ritter reportedly told the CHP officer he was resting and was trying to get back to North San Juan.
“He hasn’t been seen since,” Mount said.
She said she retraced his steps Wednesday but came up with nothing. She subsequently filed a missing person’s report.
Ritter is described as being Native American, 6 feet tall, about 170 pounds, with shoulder-length greying black hair that he often pulls into a ponytail. He also has a goatee and mustache, Mount said. He was wearing dark jeans and a dark T-shirt and was carrying the weedeater. He has no health issues but does have some plates in his face due to a car accident a year ago, Mount said.
Anyone with information is urged to call the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office at 265-1471 or Mount at 329-5802.
