A Big Oak Valley man was allegedly on a three-day methamphetamine binge when he began chasing family members around their home with a variety of sharp objects, including spears.

Nevada County Sheriff's deputies responded to the residence in the 23000 block of Hydraulic Way at about 3:45 p.m. Wednesday after a man called to report that his brother had kicked in doors at the house, according to dispatch reports. He said that his mother and another brother had locked themselves in the bathroom.

The man said his brother was waving around knives, swords and spears, then began chasing him with a knife.

When deputies arrived, they spotted the man — identified as Ehren Eleby, 46 — running up a hill away from the residence, said Sheriff Keith Royal.

A deputy gave chase and saw Eleby throw a large spear into the trees, Royal said. Eleby was detained without further incident, Royal said.

"He apparently had been doing meth for the last three days at least, and he hadn't slept," Royal said.

Eleby allegedly used a couple of metal spears to assault people at the residence, and made threats to "batter and bury" them. He also allegedly threatened to beat a 12-year-old girl at the residence.

While Eleby was being booked at county jail, deputies reportedly found meth in his possession. He was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, making criminal threats, child endangerment and bringing drugs into jail. He was being held in lieu of $25,750 bail.
