Ice skating coming to downtown Grass Valley?

Looking to build on its Cornish Christmas holiday tradition, the Grass Valley Downtown Association is actively pursuing sponsorship to bring an ice-skating rink – and perhaps more tourism business along with it – to town this winter.

Grass Valley Downtown Association Executive Director Julia Jordan said an outdoor ice-skating rink could be a reality this December at the site of the Gold Miners Inn/Holiday Inn Express on Bank Street.

“This is all contingent on the fact that we get the necessary sponsorship,” Jordan said. “We’ve actually been working on it a little over a year now.”

Jordan said the seasonal rink would be installed by a vendor with a cost of about $40,000. She said the rink would likely open in time for the second night of Cornish Christmas and remain open through New Year’s Day.

She said owners of the Gold Miners Inn/Holiday Inn Express have offered the use of their patio area for the rink.
