Grass Valley police agree to contract, pay cuts

Grass Valley Police Department employees agreed Tuesday to pay cuts of 7 percent to 9 percent, which will go into effect April 1.

At least 50 percent of the department employees approved contracts that were negotiated to help close a budget shortfall.

City Council members are expected to approve two memoranda of understanding, one for each of two bargaining units in the department, at their meeting tonight.

The concessions are expected to save the city at least $8,000 this fiscal year and about $70,000 in the next fiscal year, City Administrator Dan Holler said.
