Cutter, Ellis sign with D-I schools

Nevada County will be sending a pair of prep swimmers off to Division I colleges after graduation as Josh Cutter and Lisa Ellis will take their swimming prowess to the next level.

Nevada Union's Ellis will be swimming for the Spartans of San Jose State next season, and Bear River's Cutter will be making waves at the University of Pacific.

Cutter said he was torn between the University of Hawaii and Pacific, but along with the Pacific campus, the fact that his coach, Daryn Glasgow, is an alumna and used to coach there played a big part in his choice to stay in California.

"My coach used to coach there, and I've always really liked it," Cutter said. "The campus is beautiful, just gorgeous. The program is really good, the coach is really good, and it's D-I.

Cutter currently holds Bear River records in the 200-meter freestyle, 500 free and 200 individual medley. He plans to swim all three at Pacific.

The records are made all the more impressive by the fact he has only been swimming competitively for the past six years, all under the tutelage of Glasgow.

Cutter said he plans to study to become a physical therapist and hopes to attain his master's degree while at Pacific.
