Weekend of fights in downtown Nevada City keeps cops hopping
April 8, 2014
A number of fights kept Nevada City Police officers busy through the weekend, including one between a man allegedly under the influence of hallucinogenic mushrooms and two officers checking on his welfare.
Bad aim reportedly landed one woman in jail after she threw a bottle at a bar and accidentally clocked another female patron, said Sgt. Paul Rohde.
Police were called to the bar in the 300 block of Broad Street at 11:15 p.m. Friday after two women assaulted another woman, according to dispatch reports.
"The two women had gotten into a dispute with some men at the bar," Rohde said. "One threw a bottle and missed" the intended victim, hitting another woman in the head.
The two suspects reportedly left the bar, but the manager followed them and pointed them out to officers. The victim was transported to Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital, but the extent of her injuries was unknown.
Jessa Krissovich, 31, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, booked and released on $25,000 bail. Heather Francine Denny, 34, was arrested on suspicion of being drunk in public, booked and released on $750 bail.

At 2:23 a.m. Saturday, officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Commercial Street to a report of a very drunken man sitting in the street in front of a bar.
"He was sitting in the middle of the street, doing yoga," Rohde said.
The officers advised the man — identified as John Nelson Bowers, 22 — that he needed to move and he reportedly said he was injured and needed medical attention.
The officers called for medical help but while they were waiting, Bowers attacked one of the officers, trying to grab him around the throat, Rohde said.
An "extensive" fight between Bowers and the officers reportedly ensued before he was restrained. Both officers were injured, with sprains reported; Bowers reportedly sustained "multiple bumps, bruises and contusions" in the scuffle.
Bowers reportedly was determined to be on hallucinogenic mushrooms, and was booked into county jail on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance, battery on a peace officer and resisting arrest.
He was being held in lieu of $12,000 bail.
Sunday night, a fight that started in yet another Nevada City bar sent two men crashing through a plate glass window.
The two men had gotten into an argument at the bar in the 200 block of Broad Street and had been asked to leave, said Officer Brandon Cannon.
As they moved down the street, the argument apparently continued and punches were thrown, Cannon said, adding that both men went through the window of a former furniture store.
One man was taken to the hospital with lacerations to his arm; the other still is being sought for questioning.
