Driver in crash that injured 2 arrested on DUI charges

A Grass Valley man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after reportedly crashing his pickup and injuring his two passengers.

Jerret Baker, 21, was driving a Toyota truck just before midnight Friday southbound on Lowell Hill Road at about 30 mph at the time of the accident, according to a spokesman from the California Highway Patrol's Gold Run office.

Due to Baker's level of intoxication, the spokesman said, he swerved and went off the road, hitting a large tree. Baker sustained lacerations and abrasions and was flown to Sutter Roseville Medical Venter.

Both of his passengers were more seriously injured, the spokesman said.

Michael Norton, 22, reportedly sustained a fractured leg and fractured ribs and was flown to Roseville. Dustin Sutton, 23, sustained facial injuries and broken teeth and was flown to Mercy San Juan Hospital.

Baker was treated and booked into county jail on suspicion of driving under the influence causing bodily injury; he was subsequently released on $75,000 bail.
