Joyce Christine Peterson entered into rest peacefully June 17, 2013, at home surrounded by her loving family in Grass Valley, Calif. She was 60.
Services will be 11 a.m. on June 29, 2013, at the LDS church, 615 Hollow Way, Nevada City, Calif. 95959 with a viewing starting at 9:30 a.m. She will be laid to rest at Greenwood Memorial Gardens following the service.
She was born in Nevada City, Calif., Aug. 16, 1952, to Joseph Edward Day and Ethel Dorene McBride. She graduated from Nevada Union in 1970 and attended BYU, where she obtained a bachelors degree.
Christine loved children and was a director at Monalee’s preschool for many years. She married Jack Peterson on December 16, 1989, at the Portland, Ore., LDS Temple. In 1990 the family moved to the Marshall Islands, where they lived for three years, and then on to Saipan, where they lived for five years. In 1998 they returned to Grass Valley, where she later became an eligibility worker for Nevada County.
Christine was a member of the Grass Valley Rifle Rod and Gun Club and was very active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She loved to sew, bake, read, quilt, do crafts and play games. She had a very special way with small children and loved to be surrounded by them.
She is survived by her husband, Jack Peterson of Grass Valley, Calif.; daughters, Coressa (Steve) Koel of Olivehurst, Calif., and Shauna Peterson of Grass Valley, Calif.; father, Joseph (Roberta) Day; two grandchildren; 10 brothers and sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Christine was preceded in death by her mother, Ethel Dorene Snow; stepfather, Ottis Vernon Snow; and grandmother, Olive Dorothy Brakey, all of Grass Valley, Calif., as well as one brother; and two sisters.
