Phyllis Jean Winger

Phyllis Jean Winger passed away in the early morning hours of April 2, 2013, at Golden Empire Convalescent Hospital in Grass Valley, Calif. She was 87.

Jean’s request was to be laid to rest at the side of her husband with a simple graveside family service in Yuba City.

Jean (her preferred name) was born May 11, 1925, in Grove City, Penn., to Lawrence W. & Mary B. (Beatty) Snyder. She spent her formative years with her parents and graduated from Grove City High School in 1943 after which she attended Grove City College.

Jean was married to Robert Lewis Winger Sr. on April 21, 1945, in New Castle, Penn., upon his return from World War II. The family moved to California in 1961 settling in the San Francisco Bay Area, then later in retirement moved to Yuba City, Calif. Even in the face of great challenges, Jean was an absolute delight to be around with her always positive and uplifting attitude. As the last of her generation for the Winger family, she will be missed beyond description.

Jean is survived by her three sons and daughter-in-laws, Robert Jr. and Nancy of San Jose, Calif.; Mark and Jacque of Grass Valley; and Kevin and Robin also of Grass Valley. She is also survived by seven grandsons, one granddaughter, four great-grandsons and three great-granddaughters, all currently in Northern California.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Sr.; and her three brothers, Alfred Sr., Harold and Clair.

Jean has also requested no flowers be sent and offers as her preferred alternative a contribution to your local Shriners Hospitals for Children (www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org).
