Winter acting classes offered

Local theater director/teacher Sandra Rockman announces her schedule for several winter workshops and series beginning in January.

Three options for the “Truth in Acting” series take place in and are co-sponsored by the Miners Foundry Cultural Center. These nine-week workshops are Monday or Tuesday evenings as well as a Tuesday afternoon class starting the week of Jan. 7 and ending the week of March 4. Using improvisation, monologue and scene study, these classes will be tailored for each individual’s experience.

“Voice Opening and Projection for the Actor, Speaker” is a collaborative workshop with Dolli Melaine, who has worked with singers and actors for more than 20 years in Vienna, London and California. Participants will learn how to use their power source to support the voice/body instrument. This five-hour workshop will take place Feb. 9 at The Haven in Nevada City from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

“Instant Improv – (Just Add Actor)” is a stimulating Saturday afternoon workshop from 1 to 5 p.m. Feb. 16 at the Miners Foundry Cultural Center. Improvisation is a wonderful tool that can be as useful for the business meeting or the classroom as it is for the stage. The exercises and games are great for all levels and ages.

Rockman has worked in local theater since 1978. She recently directed the classic play “Our Town” at the Nevada Theatre. Contact Rockman to pre-register as class sizes are limited. For information about these workshops, please call (530) 265-6514 or email
