GV woman arrested for credit card theft

A Grass Valley woman was arrested Tuesday after a joint investigation by the Nevada City and Grass Valley police departments, on charges that she embezzled credit card information to purchase items that included chocolate and swimming equipment.

The investigation was initiated after a Nevada City business reported they had fired an employee, Jennifer Yeoman, after finding out she was currently going through the judicial process for credit card theft and identity theft, said Nevada City Police Det. Chad Ellis.

Yeoman, 28, was arrested by Grass valley Police in November of last year and charged with identity theft and the fraudulent use of access cards, and had pleaded not guilty. She was scheduled to be in court Thursday in that case.

While working for the Nevada City business, Yeoman had access and was entrusted to personal account information for 160 individuals, Ellis said in a press release. After Yeoman was terminated from employment the Nevada City business immediately sent out letters to all 160 clients, informing them that their personal account information had possibly been compromised.

Several customers reported that their credit card information had been used to make unauthorized purchases, some of which were in Yeoman’s name, Ellis said.

Those purchases reportedly had been shipped to a post office box in Nevada City belonging to Yeoman or to Yeoman’s residence on the 200 block of Vistamont Drive.

During the warrant search Tuesday, detectives reportedly found several items that had been purchased using the credit card numbers from victims that had their credit card numbers on file at the Nevada City business. These items ranged from a Hershey’s chocolate bar to large plastic adult-sized kickboards.

Yeoman was arrested on suspicion of embezzlement, theft of credit card information, identity theft and possession of stolen property. She is being held in lieu of $11,000 bail.
