Great teamwork by the Nevada County Arts Council, the Greater Grass Valley Chamber, the City of Grass Valley, the Nevada City Chamber and the City of Nevada City has positioned Western Nevada County as one of the top 22 candidates for California's Cultural District Designation. As part of its presentation, the team completed the huge task of cataloguing Western Nevada County's cultural assets, including more than 100 arts and cultural organizations.

Final achievement of the designation has the potential to attract more visitors to the area and enable the district entities to solicit donations, grants and other revenues from both public and private sources to help fund cultural district programs and activities, all of benefit to the entire community!

Penn Valley Municipal Advisory Council Created

On March 28, 2017 the Nevada County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution creating and establishing the Penn Valley Area Municipal Advisory Council (MAC) with an effective date of July 1, 2017 as a pilot program for two years until July 1, 2019. The idea of a MAC for Penn Valley was developed as a mechanism to help gain public input and to better disseminate information to the public early in future planning processes.

The County is now accepting applications for MAC members that represent a good cross-section of the community, including residents of Penn Valley, Rough & Ready, Lake Wildwood, Big Oak Valley or Indian Springs areas, and representatives of the business community and agriculture sectors. The term for membership is two years and applications will be accepted until June 5, 2017. Applicants will need to apply by completing an application with the Clerk of the Board's Office at the Eric Rood Administrative Center, Second Floor, 950 Maidu Avenue, Nevada City, or phone (530) 265-1480 or internet http://www.mynevadacounty.com/nc/bos/cob.
