Keep calm, attain goals

Keep calm and go for achieving your goals. You deserve it! Choose to stay stressed and you get to achieve despair and regret. The purpose of setting and achieving your goals is not to stress you out. If done correctly, setting goals will relieve you of the stress that stands between you and the achievement of your goals.

The end of the year can bring on a myriad of emotions for people. For many, it's a time to bathe in the feeling of accomplishment, and for others, it's a time of disappointment filled with an abundance of woulds, coulds and should haves. I hope for you it is the former.

What I have found for myself and the clients I coach is this … when the goals are written in a way that lines up with our values and our innate strengths and talents, the achievement of those goals is practically guaranteed. However, when the goal is not authentic, it can be a tiring struggle of constantly falling short of the goal line.

Notice your experience during the journey to achieving your goals. Are you more stressed or more at peace? There is more flow and abundance when you are at peace. You make less mistakes. Things seem to fall into place much easier. When that is the case, goal achievement is the result. However, when you are stressed, you tend to make more mistakes. You tend to lose sight of the big picture and become stuck in obstacles. You can't seem to get a break.

Here are two simple axioms you can follow to gain more clarity and calm. These come from one of my favorite go-to books, "The Passion Test," by Janet and Chris Attwood.

They suggest you set your intention, pay attention and experience no tension.

Set your intention — state clearly what you want and also what you want to experience as a result of its achievement. Approach all that you do with the intention of being led toward the achievement of your goal.

Pay attention — notice the progress you are making toward the attainment of your goal. It's about progress, not perfection.

Experience no tension — as you set your intention and pay attention, your stress and tension will dissipate. You will find yourself in your zone and thereby more able to accomplish your goal.

The second axiom the Atwoods share is the following: When you are clear, what you want will show up in your life, but only to the extent that you are clear

There is power in being clear about what you want. It creates a powerful focus that limits and perhaps even eliminates distractions.

I find many people are clear on what they don't want. Fewer are clear on what they do want. Since people try to avoid uncertainty and ambiguity, they gravitate toward where they are more clear. If you are more clear on what you don't want, that's what you get. If you are more clear on what you do want … guess what? That's what you get.

Be clear, be calm and be a goal achiever!
