Seven Hills School teacher Steve Davis has been named recipient of the 2012 Elza Kilroy award for outstanding community service.

The Nevada City Chamber of Commerce presents the prestigious Kilroy award annually to a citizen whose efforts help make Nevada City a better community.

The Chamber's Board of Directors selected Davis for the award in honor of his Bicycle Recycle project that teaches kids the practical skills of repairing bikes that are then donated to the homeless. The project gives the students a sense of accomplishment and the satisfaction of making a difference in someone's life.

The Kilroy Award is one of several annual awards presented by the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce. Other 2012 recipients are:

— Miriam Morris, honored with Dr. Leland and Sally Lewis Visual Arts Award. Morris was recognized for her devotion to the beautification of Nevada City. She has volunteered her gardening talent to the Robinson Plaza and is currently working on Calanan Park.

— Paul Emery, recipient of the Dr. Leland and Sally Lewis Performing Arts award. Emery, an accomplished musician and producer of many local theater productions, was recognized for his continuing support of Nevada County's theater arts.
