Several Nevada County businesses will host presentations to the community Thursday in the form of a Virtual Business Tour of Nevada County.
The Economic Resource Council is hosting the event, which will include presentations by Huntington Mechanical Laboratories, Holdrege & Kull, RCD Engineering, Fifty Fifty Brewing Co. and Sierra Star Vineyard and Winery.
“It’s to let the greater business community know about some exciting new businesses that are located throughout Nevada County and celebrate some of their accomplishments,” said Economic Resource Council Executive Director Robert Trent.
The event will begin at the main auditorium of Sierra College’s Nevada County campus with introductions and speakers, followed by breaking up into smaller groups. Each business will have a room throughout the campus and will present a five- to seven-minute video with interviews and behind-the-scenes look at each business, Trent said.
After the event at the college, guests will visit Sierra Starr Vineyards, where there will be wine and networking opportunities and a presentation entitled “Creating a Fortune 500 Company from Scratch,” by Michael Funk, CEO of Mountain Peoples Warehouse, a large-scale organic food and product provider.
“Nevada County has a diverse array of businesses here … and the participants at the virtual tour will get a deeper understanding about the types of businesses that flourish in Nevada County,” Trent said.
Part of the benefit of a virtual, rather than a bus, tour is the ability to disseminate information in an efficient and environmentally conscious manner, said Debbie Plass, virtual tour event coordinator and vice president of marketing and business development at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital, a partner of the Economic Resource Council.
“It allows us greater access to business across the county, because the ERC does include Truckee and North San Juan Ridge,” Plass said. “It’s also a green approach since we are not getting on buses and touring around.”
“I’m so excited,” Plass said. “I think it’s a great way to (inform) the business community of what’s really going on.”
