What is the game you cannot win? What is the quickest way to lose your personal power? What process is based in folly? What habit, if you can break it, will set you free to succeed and experience more fulfillment?
The answer to all four questions is — comparison. The “comparing game” is one you cannot win and will only serve to disengage you from your real power.
Many people fall into the trap of thinking that the act of comparing keeps them competitive and inspired to achieve more. It may have become their habit, and they will most likely justify its relevancy and purpose to performance all day long. Comparing is still a trap in that it will always be based in the fertile mind of make believe.
The challenge is that whenever you feel as if you are not enough, then you just lost the comparing game. If you ever feel like you are not enough, the real question that needs to be addressed is — not enough compared to what? How deep down that rabbit hole are you willing to go to find an elusive answer based in bias? Save your time and just stop comparing yourself to others.
If, on the other hand, you feel as if you have won the comparing game because your actions yielded a superior performance compared to another’s, then the question becomes — are we comparing apples to apples?
It will never be apples to apples as there are just too many variables that cannot be accounted for. We are all different on so many levels. We all have different things going on in our lives with myriad mental, emotional and physical dynamics. How can there ever be a “level playing field?”
To access your power in a greater way and to optimize your performances on a more regular basis try this:
Do your best.
Own your behavior.
Make no excuses.
Learn from perceived setbacks.
Make it up, make it fun and make it happen!
