Anthony's Limousine provides Airport Service from Nevada County

When high school sweethearts Kellie and Anthony Macejunas moved up to Nevada County in 1988, the young couple took a leap of faith and bought a limousine service. With fond memories of taking a sleek limousine to their high school prom just a few short years before, the two had loved the experience.

“We bought two stretch limos and changed the name to Anthony’s Limousine Service,” said Kellie. “We never looked back.”

In addition to special occasions, it didn’t take long to realize there was a high demand for rides to the airport. So Kellie and Anthony bought a Cadillac sedan and later a Cadillac Escalade SUV for trips over Donner Summit in inclement weather. Today, they have rounded out their fleet of three with a Lincoln Town Car limousine with a 120-inch stretch, which fits eight people.

More than 20 years after launching the business, Anthony’s Limousine and Airport Service has built up a loyal clientele, along with a constant flow of new prom-goers, newlyweds and bachelorettes, said Kellie.

“We have met so many people and made so many friends over the years,” she said. “We’ve done everything from bringing a newborn home from the hospital to a 10-year-old’s birthday party to transporting a 91-year-old to a Mother’s Day celebration. We’ve even had Brownie troops — it runs the gamut — there are all kinds of reasons why people need to be transported.”

Clients regularly seek out a designated driver, a lift to the train station, a ride after a medical procedure or a day of wine-tasting with friends, she added.

A large portion of the clientele is seniors in need of a ride to the airport, said Anthony, many of whom say they couldn’t get there without the service. Some have been clients for more than 20 years. One longtime customer who was terminally ill trusted Anthony so much that she asked him if he could come over daily to help her get out of bed in the morning and back to bed in the evening.

“I did it,” he said. “I was touched that she trusted me that much — all I’d done was drive her to and from the airport for many years. It was the right thing to do.”

Customer Janie Gilchrist, who has used Anthony’s Limousine and Airport Service for more than 20 years, says she enjoys being driven to Tahoe with out-of-town friends for lunch or dinner on the water.

“Kellie and Anthony are incredible drivers — they are professional in every way,” she said. “I wouldn’t have used them for years if they were otherwise.”

Round-trip rides to the airport average about $240 for two people, and the stretch limousine rents for as low $80 an hour if it’s rented for three or more hours.

In his spare time, Anthony also details cars — something he’s done since the couple moved to the area so many years ago.

“The best part about our business is the people” he said. “We love our longtime customers, and when it comes to the limo, it’s always fun to see them excited because it’s always a special occasion.”
