This morning, while Skyping with my dear friend in the Nederlands, one of the many great arranger/composers I’ve been privileged to have worked with since 1950, Denny Farnon (one of the five original creators of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences otherwise known as the Grammys), we fumbled with an explanation I’ve been trying to understand for the past 30 years or more:
What is today’s music?
We settled on “accompaniment to a visual exhibition of antics, dancing or whatever. Rhythm/noise to accent the visual antics.”
The music, wall of sound, is totally secondary behind “The Visual Act.”
