The Nevada County Resource Conservation District recognized seven individuals for their conservation efforts in agriculture, fire safety and habitat restoration. Ananda Dhira, a religious community located adjacent to the South Yuba River State Park at Bridgeport, was named conservationists of the year. The community restored a riparian area on the lower reaches of Kentucky Creek. David Vertin, board president of the conservation district, received the director of the year award. Rita de Quercus was given a special recognition award for her leadership with the local food movement and for supporting agriculture.
