Forever Yours Florist & Gifts, a new South Nevada County local business offering flower and plant arrangements, joined thousands of florists across the country for Make Someone Smile Week, a popular and heartwarming initiative that the floral industry has celebrated for the past 14 years.
“Because we just moved our business up here we wanted to get involved and be more involved in the community,” Forever Yours Florist co-owner Denise Stevens said. “Down in Sacramento we never did get involved, but I think we’re going to make this an annual thing for us.”
Created by Teleflora, a wire service that connects customers with florists around the country, Make Someone Smile Week has grown to become one of the floral industry’s most successful cause-related initiatives, delivering happiness in local communities around the nation.
This year’s celebration ran July 20-26 and was a joint project spearheaded by florists who volunteered their time and donated their flowers to create and deliver the widely popular “Be Happy Bouquets” to those in most need of a smile.
“They were just fun to make because we knew they were going to go to someone who would appreciate them,” Stevens said.
Located in the Lake of the Pines Shopping center, Forever Yours Florist & Gifts distributed 35 of their Be Happy Bouquets to the Golden Empire Nursing & Rehab Center in Grass Valley on July 25. Stevens said it was a rewarding experience.
“We did not call them ahead of time and you know when people are residents of a facility like that, sometimes they don’t get to see family that often, or people don’t come to visit them that often,” Stevens said. “So we asked the management there to make sure that people got them that didn’t have family or many visitors, and when we walked in with those happy face mugs, everybody just smiled.”
