Intero Real Estate holds first E-waste event

Intero Real Estate Services held its first E-Waste event last week, raising money to benefit local youth causes through the Intero Foundation. John and Edie Miller, broker and owners of Intero, said they enjoyed the event and that it was a means to give back to the community by improving the environment, helping people get rid of their old junk, and raising money to benefit kids.

“We are committed to giving back to the community and all of our agents are making donations for every transaction we close,” John Miller said. “We hope to continue to find ways to benefit the foundation fund, while we help the community as a whole.”

Held at the Wildwood Business Center in Penn Valley, more than 200 people donated to the event which included a 30-foot inflatable dancing man, and a 40-yard cargo container brought out by a recycling company who processes electronic waste. Intero agents volunteered their time to collect, log and sort the donations, and also went out to numerous homes to help residents get rid of their old waste.

“We had a great turnout as a team to support this event and make it a success,” John Miller said. “Most of the agents at Intero contributed their time and effort and as the owner of the company I am very proud of their efforts.”

The event raised more than two tons of e-waste, and while the total amount of money is still to be determined, the proceeds will go to a local children’s charity.

“We’re looking to be giving anywhere from a two to five thousand dollar grant,” John Miller said. “Any child oriented charities that are local non-profits in our area we would consider.”

In May, Warren Buffett’s real estate arm acquired all Intero franchises. To date, Intero has raised more than $11,000 for local charities, and more than $3 million worldwide.
