‘Businesses of the Year’ honored

Ike’s Quarter Cafe and Lazy Dog Chocolateria have been named as 2014 Businesses of the Year by the 49er Breakfast Rotary Club of Nevada City.

With 94 members, 49er Rotary is the area’s largest Rotary club, with members representing a broad range of the local business community.

The annual awards were announced at Wednesday’s (May 21) club meeting by Sean Rockwell, who coordinated the club’s selection process.

Ike Frazee accepted the award for the downtown Nevada City cafe he operates with his wife, Adrian, specializing in organic, local ingredients from sustainable and environmentally friendly sources.

Debbe Peterson accepted the award for Lazy Dog Chocolateria, the specialty chocolate and ice cream business she operates with her husband, Bob.

Rockwell noted that both businesses have been very active in supporting local schools, community groups and activities.

The club also presented its annual Employee of the Year awards. The 2014 recipients are Mimi McBride and Eric Gibbons of High Sierra Electronics, Shannon Ybarrondo of the Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Foundation, Christy Stanhope of Gateway Personal Storage, Kim Groneck of Nevada Joint Union High School District, Suze Pfaffinger of Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and Justin McIntosh of ABT Plumbing, Electric, Heating and Air Conditioning.
