Casey James Miller and Yan Kung of El Cerrito, California were married on July 5 in a small outdoor ceremony in Nevada City.
Casey joins three previous generations of his family who were married in Nevada County, including his great-grandmother, Winifred Penaluna of Grass Valley, his grandmother, Phyllis Perry of Boulder, Colorado, and his mother, Janet Miller of Moab, Utah.
Casey, son of Janet Miller and Randall Miller of Longmont, Colorado, earned his bachelor's degree from Oxford University, his master's from Harvard University and his Ph.D. from Brandeis University. Yan, son of Juliet and C.K. Kung of Markham, Ontario, received his bachelor's from Colby College and his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. This fall, the couple will begin teaching at Bryn Mawr College in suburban Philadelphia, Yan as Assistant Professor of Chemistry and Casey as Visiting Assistant Professor of Anthropology.
The wedding ceremony was officiated by Gail Smith, Nevada County assistant clerk-recorder. Bryan Bulthaup of Oakland, California was the best man. Also in attendance were Casey's great-aunt, Doris Penaluna of Grass Valley and Casey's mother, Janet Miller. The couple spent their honeymoon driving across the country from California to Pennsylvania, stopping in Colorado to visit family.
