Behind the ideas and efforts toward building a better world, volunteers fuel a movement of compassion and connection. You can make a difference by volunteering right here in your community. By sharing your time and talents to help others, you can help bring a sense of hope to our hearts, homes, neighborhoods, and ultimately our nation.
Everyone is invited to share their time and talents with Nevada County non-profits, public agencies, and schools. For persons 55 and over, accident, liability, and excess auto insurance are provided and limited mileage reimbursement is available. Literacy outreach coordinator
Help raise the visibility of the Read-Up Program in the community. The literacy outreach coordinator will arrange outreach opportunities in the community that display the benefits of Read-Up, as well as recruit volunteer tutors and adult literacy students.

Be a 'Happy Taxi' driver
Volunteer drivers are needed to help transport seniors and people with disabilities to doctor appointments, Sunday activities, etc., for Gold Country Telecare. Volunteers use their own personal car and are reimbursed at $0.55 per mile. This is a much-needed service that truly helps our Nevada County neighbors. Time commitment is flexible, so if you have some free time and can help, please call us for information.
coordinator for gala event
A local non-profit is in need of a correspondence director for the planning of a large fundraising event. Responsibilities will include preparing notes/letters of appreciation to donors, contributors and participants before, during and after the event. This person will work closely with the executive director. Good clerical and communication and organizational skills are needed.
Have a heart for veterans?
Welcome Home Vets provides advocacy for veterans and their families and works to increase community awareness of the problem of military-related psychological trauma and its effects on the veteran, the family and the community. This dynamic nonprofit is looking for assistance in their new downtown Grass Valley office. Those experienced with Microsoft Office Suite are particularly desired. Board members are also needed, particularly those with a financial services background.
Feeding families, fueling hope
Volunteers with a variety of skills are needed to assist Interfaith Food Ministry in their mission to provide supplemental food to Nevada County families in need of assistance. A capital campaign is underway to help fund the purchase of a new distribution location to better accommodate the needs of the community. Event planning expertise is needed with particular help in the areas of marketing, art design, finance, entertainment, auctions and more. 8th-grade science and humanities tutor
A local middle school is in need of tutors for the 2012-13 school year in the areas of science and humanities. This opportunity is available for week day mornings. If you have an education background and would like to help students succeed in the classroom, your assistance is needed.
Wood yard supervisor
A volunteer is needed to schedule and supervise groups of volunteers to split wood for the Senior Firewood Program. The time commitment is four to 10 hours per month. The Senior Firewood Program is a volunteer activity that provides free firewood to low-income seniors and individuals with disabilities in the Grass Valley and Nevada City areas.
Lawyer referral service
A file clerk is needed to help sort and record files and help with record keeping and organizing attorney files. Good handwriting and organizational skills are required. The Lawyer Referral program is a nonprofit that helps connect potential clients to lawyers. Volunteer Shifts can be once a week or more between 9 a.m. and noon or 1 to 3 p.m. Monday to Friday. The office location is on North Auburn Street in downtown Grass Valley.
