Connect with seniors: listen, laugh, be a friend!
If you are compassionate, enjoy friendly conversation and look forward to "making someone's day", we may have the volunteer job for you! Under the guidance of RSVP staff, we are looking for volunteers to take one shift a week; either in the morning (9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) or afternoons (12:30 to 4 p.m.) to call local seniors that have signed up to participate in our Telephone Reassurance Program. Many of the volunteers with this program say they get as much out of the experience as the senior being called.
Provide respite to care givers
One Source – Empowering Caregivers' (OSEC) in-home respite care program is designed to reach out to caregivers and their loved ones who want to remain at home. OSEC is in need of volunteers who have the ability to work independently and are compassionate, reliable, understanding and nurturing to complete a comprehensive training program that is provided through OSEC. The Volunteer Care Specialist is asked to commit to visit two to four hours per week, keep monthly time sheets with notes, maintain strict confidentiality of information, notify the Care Team of changes in the circumstances of the participant, and alert the Care Team in advance if unavailable for more than a week.
The next volunteer training session will take place late spring, 2017. Please note that individuals must obtain a valid California driver's license and have proof of current automobile insurance.
