Officials seek help in identifying sex assault suspect

The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in identifying a suspect in a sexual assault and has provided surveillance video of the man and what might be his vehicle.

According to Sheriff’s Det. Sean Scales, the victim was able to provide very little information about the suspect or where the crimes occurred.

The video apparently is from a retail location that is not in Nevada County, but the crime allegedly took place at a residence here, Scales said.

According to Scales, the assault took place “in or around” March 28.

The man in the video stills appears to have at least shoulder-length hair; the dark-colored SUV in the images might possibly be a Jeep Cherokee, Scales said.

Anyone with any information that could be of help in identifying the suspect can call Scales in the Major Crimes Unit at 530-265-1403.
