St. Canice Roman Catholic Church of Nevada City

The second Sunday of Easter, April 7, has been designated by the late Pope John Paul II as the Divine Mercy Sunday. This feast is centered on the theme of Divine Mercy which points us to the merciful love of God that lies behind the Paschal Mystery of Jesus namely, his Passion, Death and glorious Resurrection. The establishment of this devotion to the Divine Mercy was made known and revealed through St. Maria Faustina Kowalska as recorded in her Diary. In all, there were 14 revelations concerning the desired feast.

Pope John Paul II canonized Sr. Faustina on Divine Mercy Sunday and established this feast day for all Roman Catholics.

This great feast is a day of “thanksgiving for the goodness God has shown to man in the whole Easter mystery.” It also recovers an ancient liturgical tradition reflected in a teaching attributed to St. Augustine about the Easter Octave called “the days of mercy and pardon for the compendium of the days of mercy.”

We welcome all our parishioners, children, visitors and guests to join us in this special day of worship. Mass times are as follows: Saturday at 5:30 p.m., Sunday at 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m.
