RSVP-Volunteer Nevada County Current Volunteer Opportunities

Behind the ideas and efforts toward building a better world, volunteers fuel a movement of compassion and connection. You can make a difference by volunteering right here in your community. By sharing your time and talents to help others, you can help bring a sense of hope to our hearts, homes, neighborhoods, and ultimately our nation.

Everyone is invited to share their time and talents with Nevada County nonprofits, public agencies, and schools. For persons 55 and over, accident, liability, and excess auto insurance are provided and limited mileage reimbursement is available. Hospice helpers

Do you have skills and time to share with patients and families? There are many ways to get involved: office and clerical, gift and thrift volunteer, musician, massage therapy, compassionate care home hospitality and more. Training dates are April 8, 10, 15 and 17.

Maintenance director for local food bank

A person is needed who can respond to property needs by completing repairs themselves or soliciting the needed expertise. Some items include clogged drains, shelves built, storage addition, painting and general upkeep of the aging facility. There is also a once-a-year workday to coordinate. Volunteer help in this position will allow the food bank to better utilize its money, which comes completely from donations, allowing it to buy more food for hungry families.

Do you enjoy working with people and helping empower volunteers to be effective in their roles? This nonprofit needs your help to continue to grow and thrive as it moves toward the future. The volunteer coordinator has many responsibilities and works directly with the executive director. Please consider exploring this opportunity as it is a much needed position. Citizen Review Team Member

Citizen Review team members assist in the assessment of nonprofit agencies that apply for partnerships and funding from United Way of Nevada County. As a CRT member you will go with your team to visit four to five agencies in April. During these visits, you will tour the facilities and learn more about how they operate. You will be reporting these findings via a questionnaire to the United Way board of directors. The time commitment total is approximately 10 to 15 hours from April 1 through 12.

Resource assistant for 211

Do you enjoy Internet research? A volunteer with good computer and phone skills is needed to help research local resources for a local telephone assistance program. Time commitment is flexible; however, three to four hours in the afternoon, preferably twice a week, is desirable. Your help will result in allowing community members to better access local resources.

‘Empty Bowl’ event help

March 2 is the annual “Empty Bowl” soup supper for Hospitality House. Assistance is needed the day of the event: kitchen help, bussing tables, preparing bread baskets, clean up and more. If you would like to be a part of a wonderful annual community event benefitting the homeless shelter, please call RSVP.

Be a match for the Business Ignitor Program

This grassroots local nonprofit helps creates real Nevada County jobs by educating and encouraging local entrepreneurs. Volunteer help is needed in a variety of areas, including social media and marketing, fund development, class registration coordinator, administrative and clerical assistance. Computer skills are required.

Gift and thrift volunteers

Join a group of wonderful volunteers at the Hospice Thrift Store in Nevada City. Assistance is needed sorting and pricing merchandise, restocking, cashiering and more. Shifts are mornings or afternoons Monday through Friday, four hours weekly. Your volunteer help ensures that all contributions go directly back to the community to support the Hospice of the Foothills mission.

School of Care

The School of Care is an educational and resource center whose mission is to enhance the quality of care in Nevada County by providing care support services and training. Volunteer help is needed in several areas, including marketing and outreach, board members, administrative coordinator and more. Please call RSVP for information.

Lawyer Referral service

A file clerk is needed to help sort and record files and help with record keeping and organizing attorney files. Good handwriting and organizational skills are required. The Lawyer Referral program is a nonprofit that helps connect potential clients to lawyers. Volunteer shifts can be once a week or more between 9 and noon or 1 and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. The office location is on North Auburn Street in downtown Grass Valley.
