St. Canice Roman Catholic Church, Nevada City

The Winter Seasons: The opening days of January may be cold and nature bleak, but the domestic church still glows warm with the peace and joy of Christmas. We dedicated the New Year to Mary on the January lst Solemnity honoring her as Mother of God and on January 6, the Solemnity of Epiphany, we rejoice with her, as her Son is adored by the three Wise Men.

In this liturgical season the Church eagerly follows our Lord as he gathers his apostles and announces his mission.

We, his present-day disciples pray for the unique role of the Blessed Mother in plan of salvation. May we wholeheartedly obey her words of counsel “Do whatever he tells you.”

With a touch of sadness we take down our decorations and enter into the liturgical period known as Ordinary Time where we will devout ourselves to the mystery of Christ in its entirety. This is a time of growth and an opportunity to allow the dignity of Sunday to shine forth, prolonging the joy of Easter and Pentecost. Join us for our weekend services at St. Canice, Saturday at 5:30 p.m., Sunday at 8 and 9:30 a.m. Daily services are at 7:30 a.m.

Holy Wisdom, Nevada City

Many people do not attend church at all, or do so very infrequently. We live by the time-worn excuse that “you don’t have to go to church to be a good Christian.” Christ Himself, thought it important to attend and participate in weekly worship. By what standard of measurement do we feel that we are entitled to do less?

Divine Liturgy Sundays at 9:30 a.m.; Vespers is on Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m.;
