St. Canice Church

December is the time when we at St. Canice Church in Nevada City celebrate the liturgical season of Advent which marks the time of spiritual preparation by the faithful for Christmas, the birth of Jesus Christ. This spiritual journey spans for four weeks or four Sundays as symbolically represented by the advent wreath which consists of four candles and each candle is lit every Sunday.

When we think about Jesus’ first coming as a child on Christmas Day, we can’t help but be happy. Simply thinking about the manger scene in Bethlehem reminds us of how much God loves us. We feel moved to gather with family and friends and celebrate the fact that Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God and our Savior, became man and lived among us so that he could redeem us. There is so much to celebrate not only that God became human. Jesus became man to subject himself to the limitations of human life and subjected himself to death on the cross for our forgiveness of sins and for our salvation and set us free. Come celebrate Advent/Christmas Season with us - family, friends and visitors. Masses are Saturdays, Vigil Mass 5:30 p.m., Sundays at 8 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.;Daily Mass 7:30 a.m.
