Day of Action hosted by the United Way
On Friday, May 9th, you can make a big difference by joining the United Way in their special event.
The Day of Action provides groups of volunteers and individuals a way to give back to the community by helping local non-profits do projects such as gardening, painting, and bagging food on one very special day.

Patient Care Volunteers
Hospice of the Foothills is looking for individuals with caring hearts to attend a four day training in mid-May.
Whether your talents lie in music, massage or friendly conversation; these homebound patients and caregivers need your time and support.

Help for Helpline
HelpLine Senior Information and Assistance and telephone reassurance needs your communication skills to connect people to health and social services by answering phones and making outgoing calls to socialize with local seniors. HelpLine is located in the RSVP offices.
Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. - 12:30 and 12:30 - 4:00p.m.
North Star Mining Museum
This Grass Valley museum is a real hidden treasure with numerous hands-on exhibits and an extensive collection of Pelton Water Wheels. Docents are needed to guide visitors through the museum and give an informational talk on its content. Training and support is provided. Assistance in the gift shop is also needed. Volunteers are needed one day a week; 10 – 4 p.m.
Participants needed for ‘stay well at home’
Become part of an innovative program brought to you after years of professional research and experience in fall prevention by the California Wellness Foundation. Specially trained volunteers will help you lower your risk for injuries in your home. Must be 75 or older (Can be younger if at risk for falls.)
Use your Word, Excel and general clerical skills to help the Nevada County Public Health Department and support Public Health Nursing. Must be able to pass drug and background screen required by County of Nevada and maintain confidentiality.
Food distribution assistance
Interfaith Food Ministry needs ongoing volunteers to help sort and pack orders for clients that are receiving food. This is a good opportunity to get involved individually or with friends and family. You must be able to stand for 3-5 hour morning shifts on Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays.
Meals On Wheels drivers needed
This Thursday route is for you, if you enjoy helping seniors, and can follow written and visual driving directions. It is one of the more populated routes and full of interesting characters. Two and one half hours once a week is all it takes to provide needed nourishment and care. Other routes have also just opened on Wednesday and Friday.
Is nursing your calling?
Temporary immunization nurse with RN license needed. This short-term position will help provide immunization services to adult and pediatric populations in Nevada County on Thursdays from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. (The Nevada County Public Health Department is pursuing a RN to provide these services as a paid contract employee but needs help to maintain services in the interim.)
Reclaim, revive, renew!
Do you have retail sales experience? Help this nonprofit that is looking for volunteers to organize, decorate, cashier, and do some lifting as either salespersons or backroom staff. Women of Worth assists families in crisis and victims of domestic violence. Help rebuild lives while using your retail skills.
Experienced accountant or bookkeeper
The School of Care is in the process of applying for CA State approval to host Nurse Assistant Training for federally-sponsored students. Volunteer with CPA or lengthy accounting experience needed to assist in preparing and submitting financial reports for new nonprofit organization. Help the program leaders develop best financial practices.
For persons 55 and over, accident, liability, and excess auto insurance are provided and limited mileage reimbursement is available.
