Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) Volunteer Nevada County

Everyone is invited to share their time and talents with Nevada County nonprofits, public agencies, and schools. Over 75 local agencies need your help. View more volunteer opportunities at http://www.volunteernevadacounty.org. Here is a sampling of what is available:

Event planning is fun and rewarding

Special Events Committee Members alert! United Way runs events throughout the year for both fundraising and to benefit other non-profits in the community. Whether it’s an Evening Out, Foreign Car Show, or BBQ Battle, the Special Events Committee works with United Way staff to manage and implement the events. This is an opportunity for you to be part of a special project from start to finish. Pick one project, two or three. The choice is yours.

Help for Helpline

HelpLine Senior Information and Assistance and telephone reassurance needs your communication skills to connect people to health and social services by answering phones and making outgoing calls to socialize with local seniors. HelpLine is located in the RSVP offices.

Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 12:30 to 4 p.m.

Food distribution assistance

Interfaith Food Ministry needs ongoing volunteers to help sort and pack orders for clients that are receiving food. This is a good opportunity to get involved individually or with friends and family. You must be able to stand for 3-5 hour morning shifts on Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays.

Patient care volunteers

Hospice of the Foothills is looking for individuals with caring hearts to attend a 4 day training in mid-May. Whether your talent lies in music, massage or friendly conversation, these homebound patients and caregivers need your time and support.

One call to RSVP at 530-271-0255 will help make the right match for you.

Meals On Wheels’ drivers needed

This Thursday route is for you, if you enjoy helping seniors, and can follow written and visual driving directions. It is one of the more populated routes and full of interesting characters. Two and one half hours once a week is all it takes to provide needed nourishment and care. Other routes have also just opened on Wednesday and Friday.

Clerical assistance

Use your Word, Excel and general clerical skills to help the Nevada County Public Health Department and support Public Health Nursing. Must be able to pass drug and background screen required by County of Nevada and maintain confidentiality for private health information.

Reclaim, revive, renew!

Do you have retail sales experience? Help this non-profit that is looking for multiple volunteers to organize, decorate, cashier, and do some lifting as either salespersons or back room staff.

Women of Worth assists families in crisis and victims of domestic violence.

Help rebuild lives while using your retail skills.

Experienced accountant or bookkeeper

The School of Care is in the process of applying for Calif. state approval to host Nurse Assistant Training for federally-sponsored students. Volunteer with CPA or lengthy accounting experience needed to assist in preparing and submitting financial reports for new nonprofit organization.

Help the program leaders develop best practices in bookkeeping and financial reporting.

It’s OK to fall for this …

The Falls Prevention Coalition is recruiting volunteers over 40 to help seniors lower their risk for falling and “Stay Well At Home” (SWAH). After a workshop, you will be matched with one or more recipients. SWAH was developed by experts in falls prevention at CSU, Fullerton and is funded by The California Wellness Foundation.

Participants needed for ‘Stay Well at Home’

If you are 75 years of age or older (younger if at risk for falls), and are concerned about falls or have a history of falling, we NEED you! Become part of an innovative program brought to you after years of professional research and experience in fall prevention by the California Wellness Foundation.

Specially trained volunteers will help you lower your risk for injuries in your home.

For persons 55 and over, accident, liability, and excess auto insurance are provided and limited mileage reimbursement is available. If you are interested in any of the positions, e-mail us at rsvp3@nccn.net, visit our office at 471 Sutton Way, Suite #202, in Grass Valley, or call weekdays 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 530-271-0255.

RSVP is part of the Corporation for National and Community Service and sponsored by the local Area 4 Agency on Aging.
