Participants needed for ‘Stay Well at Home’
If you are 75 years of age or older (younger if at risk for falls), and are concerned about falls or have a history of falling, we NEED you! Become part of an innovative program brought to you after years of professional research and experience in fall prevention by the California Wellness Foundation. Specially trained volunteers will help you lower your risk for injuries in your home.
Short-term citizen review teams
Citizen Review Teams (CRT) assist in the assessment of nonprofit agencies that apply for partnership and funding from the United Way of Nevada County. After the initial training, members visit 4 to 5 nonprofit agencies between March 31 and April 15. This is a way to learn about the Health and Human Services nonprofit agencies in Nevada County. Training takes place March 24th at 5:30 p.m. We need you!
Healthy eating, healthy futures
Encourage teens healthy eating. Help teach pre-teen and teenage girls the importance of good nutrition by preparing 20-25 healthy snacks for the Friendship Club on Tuesday afternoons. Be part of an amazing program that helps young women stay healthy, stay on track, and succeed in life.
Plan now for summer fun

Help little ones bloom in a positive way by becoming a Big Brother or Big Sister for at-risk youth. You have the opportunity to help shape a child’s future for the better by empowering him or her to achieve. And the best part is, it’s actually a lot of fun. A few Spanish speaking mentors are needed too.
Reading, writing, arithmetic
If you have some teaching experience and are comfortable helping students with reading, spelling, or math, there is a waiting list of students, 3rd through 8th graders, who need your skills and knowledge. After school tutors needed Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

SWAH was developed by experts in falls prevention at CSU, Fullerton and is funded by The California Wellness Foundation. Nevada County is the first rural community chosen to be part of the program!
