Center for the Arts bleacher fundraiser for Grass Valley Vets Memorial Auditorium

The Center for the Arts introduces a new program to raise funds to retrofit the bleachers at the Grass Valley Veterans Memorial Auditorium. The project will create a permanent installation for the Vets Hall and involves installing comfortable seating for those attending the many community events held there.

The Veterans Auditorium is owned and operated by Nevada County. In addition to concerts held at the main stage at the Center, the Center also rents the veterans auditorium for about 10 concerts each year.

“We are pleased to take on the challenge of raising funds to make this capital improvement for the benefit of our community,” said Executive Director for the Center Julie Baker.

“We have top-name artists performing there and want to provide the best possible experience for concert-goers.

“It is an expensive project and involves making repairs to the bleachers, widening the walkways, making way for additional ADA seats, and finally, the installation of the new state-of-the-art stadium seating,” she added.

“The project is called ‘Operation: Name a Seat’ and is now up and running,” said Rhonda Herrin, development director for the Center for the Arts.

“A contribution of $125 will cover the cost of one stadium seat, seat cushion and a commemorative plaque with the name of a veteran or active duty serviceman or woman. It is a great way to honor a family member, neighbor or friend that served.”

Welcome Home Vets is an organization providing free counseling services to veterans and their families.

“Concerts and other events are a great way for our community to come together,” said Welcome Home Vets Executive Director Gary Brown.

“I am so pleased that each seat will honor those that have given so much to our country to preserve freedom.”

A total of 483 stadium seats will be installed in the bleachers. The goal is to have all seats sold for an installation celebration this summer.

Purchase of the seats can be done online: www.thecenterforthearts.org, in person at the Center, 314 W. Main St., Grass Valley, or by calling 530-274-8384.
