Donors sought for dog’s life-saving surgery

Can you help Abby?

Abby has a mass on her liver, and surgery is needed to save her life. At only 9 years old, this happy-go-lucky wire-haired terrier mix could still have a long life ahead of her.

Originally adopted from the Nevada County Animal Shelter as a puppy, Abby’s new owner took her to the river, where Abby fell off a rock and tore her anterior cruciate ligament, which connects the bone above the knee to the bone below the knee.

Abby’s owner couldn’t afford the surgery and said Abby would need to be euthanized.

Instead, the vet offered to take the dog and make her well. Animal Save and Sammie’s Friends paid for Abby’s ACL surgeries, and she was adopted by her new mom, Karin.

“Abby barks at me to tell me that her doggy brother is being naughty, and she spins and dances after she gets out of water at the NID ditch,” Karin said. “It’s really funny because she only gets in to her knees.”

As happy endings go, this was a good one until recently, when a large mass was found on her liver. Surgery must be performed very soon to save Abby’s life.

Even if the tumor is benign, it could rupture. Karin’s limited budget won’t allow her to pay for the entire procedure. If you feel you can help Abby, send any amount you can to Sammie’s Friends, 14647 McCourtney Road, Grass Valley, CA 95949, or go to http://sammiesfriends.org and use the available payment options. Just note that the donation is for Abby’s Fund.
