One of the Fur Traders’ locations in Nevada City will be moving into a new, larger location in the next month.
The company has multiple locations, one at 233 Broad St., and the original location that opened more than 30 years ago at 319 Broad St. in Nevada City, which will move to the former Indian Springs Vineyards location at 303 Broad St.
The new locale offers about three times the space of the current building, as well as a 1,400-square-foot basement for storage, complete with a conveyor belt and ramp accessible from street level in order to move inventory.
The entrance from Pine Street will become a post office area, where customers can ship items, pick up orders and rent post office boxes.
Such a venture is particularly helpful with shipping orders through online sites furtraders.com, sheepskintraders.com and nevadacitytraders.com, which average about 70-120 orders a day, said Barry Costello, who owns Fur Traders with his wife, Marjie.
“We can’t ship more than 110, 120 orders a day (currently). We just don’t have the space to do it,” he said.
“With this basement that’s got a conveyor system, we’re able to process and get orders out in a timely manner.”
The mailbox business will offer mailing services for customers separate from Fur Traders, Costello said.
“People can get their mail delivered and accept packages from UPS and the other freight shipping, and because we’re doing such a high volume with our Internet business, we really can get some low rates we can pass on to the consumer for better prices,” he said.
The store offers footwear from Keen, Merrell, Born, Minnetonka, Klogs, Onex and Ugg,
It also offers high-quality sheepskin products, hats, scarves, jackets, gloves and items made from rabbit and cashmere, purchased from around the world, Barry Costello said.
The closing location is offering storewide sales to clear out inventory of discontinued items, Marji Costello said, adding the building is also for sale at $399,000, or best offer.
“We’re having a big blowout sale for everything we possibly can,” she said.
“Up to 50 percent off of everything, so people can take advantage of that before the store closes.”
The new location is expected to open no later than November.
