An apartment fire in downtown Grass Valley drew a quick response Wednesday afternoon.
Firefighters from Grass Valley, Nevada County Consolidated, Nevada City and Cal Fire responded to reported multiple-family structure fire in the 300 block of Mill Street at 12:30 p.m.
Grass Valley Battalion 1 arrived to find moderate smoke from a single upstairs apartment, according to Battalion Chief Steve Smith. All occupants were out of the apartment upon arrival. Quick work by firefighters contained the fire to the single apartment with moderate damage.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Smith said.
