American Fire 88 percent contained

The American Fire was 88 percent contained as of 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to fire agencies.

The south, west and north perimeters remain in patrol status, and some pockets of heat found interior to the west side containment line were extinguished Monday night, according to a press release by Tahoe National Forest public affairs officer Gwen Ernst-Ulrich.

Crews completed burning operations adjacent to Mosquito Ridge Road along the eastern perimeter, including firefighters lighting low intensity (“cool”) fire with the intent of reducing ground fuels between the fire perimeter and main fire, the release stated.

With the fire’s increasing containment, crews have begun repairing areas affected by firelighting activities, including chipping material piled next to roads during fire line construction and identifying needs to construct water control devices along fire lines throughout the fire area.

Mosquito Ridge Road remains closed from the junction of Ralston Ridge Road to the junction of the Duncan Diversion Dam access road, west of French Meadows Reservoir.

Foresthill Road remains closed from Humbug Canyon Road to Robinson Flat Campground; Forest Road 43 remains closed from Robinson Flat Campground to Mosquito Ridge Road. Robinson Flat Campground and Duncan Peak Lookout also remain closed.

French Meadow Reservoir and access to the Oxbow Middle Fork American Rafting Launch put in remain open.
