The woman killed in a two-vehicle crash Thursday evening on the San Juan Ridge has been identified as Ellen Metz-Titre, 38, of North San Juan.
A passenger in her Yaris was gravely injured, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Greg Tassone.
August Cronley, 28, of Graniteville, was driving a Toyota Tundra pickup eastbound on Tyler-Foote at about 6:15 p.m., according to CHP Officer Cindy Morgan. Cronley drifted off the road and the truck’s right tires dipped into a ditch, Morgan said. He tried to steer back onto the road but lost control, veering left across the double yellow lines and directly into the path of the Yaris being driven by Metz-Titre.
The front right side of the truck hit the front left side of the Yaris, causing both vehicles to overturn and come to rest on their roofs, Morgan said.
Metz-Titre sustained severe blunt-force trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Metz-Titre had three passengers in her car. Elijah Andrews, 35, of Arcata, sustained major head trauma and was flown by helicopter to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition. Jordan Conrad, 34, of West Hollywood, suffered fractures and lacerations, and Matthew Titre, 29, suffered minor injuries. Both were taken to Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital.
Cronley reportedly sustained minor injuries and was taken to Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital. He had two passengers; Justin Pearson, 35, of Woodland Hills, sustained major injuries and was first transported to Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital, then to Mercy San Juan Hospital. Jonathon Marquis, 34, of Beverly Hills, suffered fractures and was taken to Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital.
Alcohol or drugs were not suspected to have caused the accident, Morgan said.
Emergency responders deployed two helicopter air-ambulances and three ground ambulances to assist the seven people involved in the wreck, closing both lanes of Tyler-Foote Crossing Road for approximately 90 minutes.
