A Lincoln man was missing at Bullards Bar Reservoir Sunday after a boat he was in apparently capsized near the north side of the lake, authorities said.
Two men were involved in the incident, which occurred some time before the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call at 2:09 p.m. George Szuh, 39, of Roseville was injured and taken to Rideout Medical Center. Matthew Camp, 30, of Lincoln was not found.
The watercraft was traveling about 40 mph when it hit a wake wave at a difficult angle, causing it to capsize, according to the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department.
The Yuba County Sheriff’s Marine Enforcement Unit responded to the scene, along with several fire departments, a search and rescue team of trained scuba divers and a Placer County Sheriff’s Department helicopter.
Sgt. Wence Kemp of the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department said a patrol boat wasn’t far from the capsized boat at the time of the crash.
“The good news is our boat patrol was on the lake,” Kemp said. “They’re familiar with the lake, and they were there pretty quick.”
Cal Fire Battalion Chief Mike Carr said rescuers were searching for the missing person in an area of the lake that is more than 100 feet deep.
Camp was still missing as of about 7 p.m. Sunday, and the search continued, according to the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department.
